City Hall
Rec'd the 24th Nikkei New Office Award
Okamura was contracted to provide comprehensive assistance in a connection with the city relocating to a new government building and consolidating. The new building, which has one belowground and seven aboveground floors, puts city services used often by residents together on the first floor. There are also other considerations for residents like a help desk. The second floor has a cafe, an area showcasing the city's sister city, and an area that displays artwork related to the city, all of which are open to the public. The area providing information on city policies features custom furniture made with Tama forest products. The administrative zone incorporates a universal plan, and the building features an earthquake-resistant structure, barrier-free features and use of renewable energy. It is a cheerful, progressive government building which is a model for future municipal government.
