MUKU Task Chair Wins German Design Award 2027

Okamura Corporation (Headquarters: Yokohama, Japan; President and Chief Executive Officer: Masayuki Nakamura) is pleased to announce that its MUKU task chair has been named a “Winner” in the “Excellent Product Design” category of the German Design Award 2027.

Established in 2012 by the German Design Council, the German Design Award is an internationally recognized award that honors outstanding design with impact.

Developed in collaboration with Foster + Partners Industrial Design, MUKU is distilled to the essential elements – without compromising on comfort – balancing visual and physical lightness with advanced performance.

Rooted in visual simplicity and controlled geometry, the design responds effortlessly to different contexts and user needs while maintaining a consistent identity. The name MUKU means pureness and natural simplicity, reflecting the approach expressed through the clarity and design of the task chair.

Available as a conference, home-office, and fully adjustable workplace task chair, MUKU is suited to both residential and commercial settings, working equally well as a standalone piece or as part of a larger system.

Sustainability is embedded in both the material selection and within the manufacturing process. MUKU incorporates recycled aluminum in its structural components, recycled nylon in plastic elements, and mesh fabrics for the upholstery produced from recycled yarn and fishing nets, including Okamura’s Re:net material – supporting long-life design, material responsibility, and circular thinking.
