A minimal work booth with sound-absorbing panels.

drape means “to envelope” or “to cover.” True to its name, Drape is a work booth that’s so minimal it envelopes the worker.

Achieving a comfortable working environment using minimal space

Layout pattern plans

Do you need a place where you can concentrate fully on your work for a few hours each day? Do you need a private space for attending online meetings? Workers with highly flexible workstyles perform best when they can choose their own environment. Conventional work booths need to surround the worker with thick heavy panels to ensure privacy and shut out sound, and can only be installed in limited locations. drape achieves the same effects using a minimal space of just one square meter.

Confirmed layout patterns

We researched the latest trends in design and came up with a simple and clean design utilizing hidden screws. Furthermore, improvements in the shape of the top board and the layout of the panels have enabled us to realize a compact design that still leaves ample space for working on tasks.

Confirming in-booth working space

Online meetings are increasingly common, and taking protective measures against infections spread through droplets will continue to be necessary. drape is a vital tool for people working in the new normal.

Focusing on ergonomics to create a chair for global use

Confirmation of the assembled product

We made the design of drape as simple and minimalistic as possible to allow workers to concentrate on their tasks in a comfortable but compact environment. The desk is fastened directly to the panels, eliminating the need for table leg parts and creating more leg room. The booth is also illuminated with subtle indirect lighting, creating a soft and cozy environment.

CG confirming the placement of the lighting

The exterior color can be chosen freely, so the booth can also serve as an accent piece to its surroundings, despite its simple design. For the upholstery, you can select either a felt fabric, which gives a soft impression, or a woven fabric, which creates a warm feel.

Sound absorbing materials and panel opening

We also made sure that the 30mm-thick panels are sufficiently sound absorbing. While not noticeable from the outside due to the upholstery, the inner panels have several small holes packed with sound absorbing materials, which absorb sounds and prevents them from reverberating. It’s a simple but highly functional design that’s the result of a long process of trial and error.

Provides comfort for both the person inside and the people outside

The entrance allows only a partial side view of the users inside, to prevent them from being distracted

What makes the drape unique is that it’s beneficial for both the person inside as well as the people outside. Conventional work booths are often installed so that the user’s back faces the hallway, making it difficult for those outside to check who is using the booth and how focused they are on their tasks.

On the other hand, the user would feel distracted by people looking in from behind. With drape, the table-top is installed at a slanted angle so that the user neither sees nor has their back to the entrance of the booth. This means that people outside can partially see the user’s face from the side, allowing for easier communication. At the same time, the booth is designed to shield users from visual distractions, resulting in a semi-enclosed space where they can concentrate on their tasks while also being suitably aware of their surrounding environment.

To help the user concentrate comfortably on their work, the interior upholstery is limited to gray or beige, which are easy on the eyes. A variety of lively colors can be chosen for the exterior upholstery to liven up the workplace. We’ve come up with a work booth that does not merely close off a space, but also helps the user concentrate comfortably on their work.

Each piece of the upholstery is painstakingly finished

Open offices are becoming increasingly common, and while enclosed personal work booths are highly soundproof, they are difficult to move around and don’t harmonize well with open working spaces. On the other hand, work booths that simply partition spaces using panels aren’t efficient at shutting out sound. Now, after a long process of trial and error, we’ve succeeded in creating a work booth with high sound absorption that also harmonizes well with the office interior.
