Abilis Wins Red Dot Award: Product Design 2025

We are proud to announce that Abilis has received the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2025 in the “Office Furniture and Office Chairs” category. The Red Dot Award is one of the world’s most prestigious design awards, organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany since 1955. With this year’s win, Okamura marks its 12th consecutive year of receiving the Red Dot Design Award since 2014, a testament to the company’s ongoing commitment to exceptional design and innovation in office furniture.

Abilis was created in collaboration with German design studio ITO DESIGN and draws inspiration from the hexagonal patterns commonly found in nature. The backrest and rear seat frame feature a distinctive dual-hexagon structure, delivering both visual harmony and structural integrity.  The seamless connection between the two hexagonal frames gives the chair an organic sense of lightness, while the rear frame extends to support the armrests, enhancing ergonomic comfort and structural strength. This thoughtful design results in a chair that offers both refined aesthetics and superior functionality.

 About the “Red Dot Design Award”

The Red Dot Award is an internationally recognized design competition with a history dating back to 1955. Organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, the award encompasses three categories: Product Design, Brands & Communication Design, and Design Concept.  The Product Design category evaluates entries based on criteria such as innovation, functionality, quality, ergonomics, durability, and symbolic value, with 51 sub-categories covering a broad spectrum of industrial design.
