Okamura’s Floris and Abilis Receive “Winner” Recognition at the German Design Award 2026

November 20, 2025

We are proud to announce that Floris and Abilis have both received the “Winner” distinction in the “Excellent Product Design” category at the German Design Award 2026, presented by the German Design Council.

Established in 2012, the German Design Award is one of the most prestigious international design competitions, recognizing outstanding and influential achievements in design excellence.

Floris

Comfort and Harmony.  Wherever You Work.

Floris is a chair designed to complement today’ s diverse workstyles. Whether at a desk in the office, a café area, an open workspace, or even a small office or community space, it naturally blends into any environment.
With its organic form and soft, inviting presence, Floris provides both aesthetic harmony and ergonomic comfort. It supports your body with ease across a variety of settings, offering comfort and flexibility wherever work happens.

Abilis

Comfort and Harmony.  Wherever You Work.

Designed in collaboration with ITO DESIGN* of Germany, Abilis takes inspiration from the hexagonal structures found in nature.

Its design integrates two hexagonal frames—the mesh backrest and rear seat frame—to achieve both material efficiency and structural balance.  In nature, hexagonal structures can be found in honeycombs, snowflake crystals, and many other places.  Abilis applies this natural structural wisdom to chairs, ensuring maximum strength from minimal materials.

Abilis has previously been recognized with the Red Dot Design Award in Germany.

* ITO DESIGN is an international design studio founded in 1987 with offices in Germany and Switzerland. The studio specializes in ergonomic, high-performance seating and uses deep knowledge of global standards and advanced technologies to create emotionally engaging designs.
