June 11, 2026

Okamura Corporation’s task chair MUKU has received the Sustainability Award in the Seating: Conference category of the Furniture division at the Best of NeoCon 2026 Awards, which recognize outstanding products exhibited at NeoCon, North America’s largest commercial interiors trade show.
Founded in 1969, NeoCon (The National Exposition of Contract Furnishings) is the premier event for the commercial interiors industry and is held annually at the Mart in Chicago, USA. The Best of NeoCon Awards honor exceptional products showcased at the exhibition. With this latest recognition, Okamura products have now received Best of NeoCon awards on eight occasions.
About MUKU
Developed in collaboration with Foster + Partners Industrial Design, the task chair uses only the essential elements – without compromising on comfort – balancing visual and physical lightness with advanced performance. Rooted in visual simplicity and controlled geometry, the design responds effortlessly to different contexts and user needs while maintaining a consistent identity. The name MUKU means pureness and natural simplicity, reflecting the approach expressed through the clarity and design of the task chair.
Available as a conference, home-office, and fully adjustable workplace task chair, MUKU is suited to both residential and commercial settings.
The chair reflects a shared approach between Okamura and Foster + Partners Industrial Design, combining precision engineering with refined ergonomics. Every detail – from the incline, angles, and rotation to the dynamic tilting mechanism – has been carefully considered to deliver comfort and intuitive usability. Innovations such as layered-cushion lumbar support and adjustable armrests required new engineering approaches, incorporating intricate mechanisms within the chair’s frame while remaining visually discreet. These details are best appreciated through their ease of use and seamless functionality.
Developed through an iterative process of design and making, the chair balances traditional techniques and advanced technologies integrating craft, engineering and global regulatory requirements.
Sustainability is embedded in both the material selection and within the manufacturing process. The chair incorporates recycled aluminum in its structural components, recycled nylon in plastic elements, and mesh fabrics for the upholstery produced from recycled yarn and fishing nets, including Okamura’s Re:net material – supporting long-life design, material responsibility, and circular thinking.
